How has the coronavirus affected you?

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed a lot in our lives. When Corona began, the infectious and destructive power of Corona was so mighty that no one could expect it to be, so I was afraid to go out of the house. However, as time went by, we got used to living in a world with COVID-19 for more than two years. There were many restrictions in daily life, such as lockdown and social distancing, but on the other hand, it was an opportunity for me to rest and recharge like a sabbatical year. There have been many positive changes in my life during the Corona period of 2 years.

1. Koreans study English hard. I got high TOEIC scores and vocabulary before coming to Botswana seven years ago. I thought it would not be difficult to speak English if I put a little effort into basic skills. However, the reality was different. Words and grammar were mixed up in my head when I tried to say something. I couldn’t even speak English properly and only had a headache. What the hell is wrong with me?

Corona gave me a chance to correct English from the basics. I realized something by listening to Internet lectures and watching YouTube related to English conversation. The problem was that the grammar system of Korean and English was utterly different, so it didn’t work the way I did, such as I tried to change only the words into English. The Corona period was an excellent opportunity to acquire an English thinking system. Now speaking in English is much easier, and I am experiencing a tremendous change like posting in English on Quora.

2. It has become a habit to sit in a chair. There were times when I didn’t go out of the house all day. As COVID-19 begins, I have time to spare, so I go out to the garden, do gardening, and pull out the grass. I realized how far I was from nature. Whether it rains or is clear, hot or cold, I enjoy nature, receiving pure energy. I appreciate the small happiness of everyday life.

3. I didn’t go out well because I was afraid of COVID-19, but fortunately, the vaccine was developed and distributed, and I felt relieved when I got the vaccine. I have a much healthier body than before COVID-19 by steadily exercising indoors and walking in the yard. These days, I started walking close to my house wearing a mask.

4. I got close to the book again. As I was chased by daily life, I felt a lack of something. Besides, I wanted to know the way the world works. It was time to acquire knowledge in fields of interest, such as philosophy, history, economy, and self-development leadership. As I read the book, I dared to post on Quora’s excellent platform, so I had a fantastic opportunity to share my experiences and insights with people. I wouldn’t have dreamed of it if it weren’t for Quora.

5. As I suffered a forced disconnection due to COVID-19, I began to reflect on my inner self. Looking back on my relationship with close people I have met and known, I can see the answer to the problem. I can see my selfish and self-centered self and record what I look back on based on it in my diary. I meditate on the topic through my journal and empty it. The more I let go, the clearer my mind becomes, the clearer it becomes, and I return to my true self.

Many people say that a crisis is an opportunity for someone. The power to turn a problem into an option must be discovered by yourself. Now, COVID-19 is slowly dying down, and we expect that we can return to our daily lives before COVID-19 soon. However, some predict it will not completely go back to before COVID-19. Just as the problem comes if you don’t take care of your body and mind, I think the Earth, the home of our lives, is sending us a signal through Corona that it is sick. Since we live on Earth anyway, I realize that we must cherish and care for nature and coexist with our people. Thank you for being with me today.🍁🍂🌺
