How crucial to you is patience when dealing with your life? I find it very hard to stay patient sometimes.
Patience is more crucial when dealing with your life than you could ever imagine. Why? Because patience is life itself. Don’t stop reading just yet; let me explain. 😃
What is impatience?
Each person lives inside their own mind world. They perceive the world through their five senses and exist within their own perception of reality. Within this perception, there are countless thoughts, attachments to the past, and concerns about the future. While the quantity of thoughts and attachments may vary among individuals, this is a common characteristic of every human being.
Impatience can be defined as the thoughts, emotions, and habits that pull us away from the present moment and the task at hand. It creates clutter and blockages within our minds, constantly distracting us from the here and now, the world as it truly is. This is a distinct feature of the human mind and does not occur elsewhere in nature. For example, a tree simply lives its life, performing its tree functions such as growing leaves and shedding leaves. The same applies to other creatures in the world. It is only us humans who fall victim to impatience.
Why do we become impatient?
The foundation of the human mind is rooted in feelings of inferiority. I think that we are all too familiar with the belief that we are not enough and that we require something external to fill this inner void. This sense of inferiority drives us to become greedy, rush things, and seek quick results. When the desired quick results don’t materialize (which is often the case), we grow impatient. If our feelings of inferiority are particularly strong, we may give up and instead pity ourselves, feeling useless, or hastily move on to something else, repeating the pattern. In other words, impatience can be seen as an extension or symptom of the inherent inferiority within us.
What is patience?
On the other hand, patience is the opposite of all this. True patience is the absence of thoughts, the absence of an inferiority complex, that hinder our focus on the present moment and the task at hand. In a sense, it should be the most natural state for any human being. And it can be. But, it must be discovered within ourselves in order to manifest. Otherwise, we are likely to live in a state of impatience.
The real reason why impatience is detrimental to our lives
If we don’t find a way to overcome our impatience, we will continue to wander aimlessly and be constantly at the mercy of our thoughts. This will be our fate day after day until our last breath. It is not a real life because we will have never truly lived outside the confines of our own thoughts. Our existence will have been a façade, a drama unfolding within our minds like a futile dream. We would never have experienced true life; never tasted the sweetness of reality. This would indeed be a grim fate, and it is the very reason why impatience has such a detrimental impact on our lives. We should make every effort to become patience.
How to become patient
The path to patience lies in discovering it from within. To accomplish this, we must uncover our true, patient mind. This can be achieved through meditation. By clearing away the clutter of thoughts and emotions, our true mind/consciousness begins to reveal itself from within. This mind embodies patience because it does not engage in excessive thinking or concern itself with time. It simply “is,”; its expression is always in alignment with the world itself.
Since this true mind lacks feelings of inferiority, it does not compete or strive to outdo others. Everything that arises from this mind is beneficial and harmonious with the world as a whole, as it represents the true will of the world.
Through meditation, we gradually unveil this truth and our task is to fully merge with it. I hope more people come to realize this, as it is the way forward for humankind. It offers a new and improved way of life.
